Travel Information for Lesvos Island (Lesbos)

Travellers have two very easy ways of reaching Lesvos Island ... they can travel by plane or by ferry.

Flights to Lesvos Island

All flights to Lesvos Island are to Mytilini International Airport "Odysseas Elytis" (MJT). There are direct charter flights from the UK, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and Holland. Direct Charter planes fly directly to the island airport of Mytilini which means you do not have to fly via Athens. However, these are only available on certain days of the week and may limit your travel options.

Another way of reaching Mytilini International Airport are the Domestic Scheduled flights. There are Domestic Scheduled flights from Athens International Airport up to 7 times per day. These flights take just 50 minutes to reach Mytilini. There are also Domestic Scheduled flights from Thessaloniki International airport to Mytilini.

Ferries to Lesvos Island

Mytilini Harbour - LES You can travel to Lesvos Island by taking a ferry to the harbour of Mytilini. There are daily ferries leaving from Pireaus (West Athens) to Mytilini Harbour. The journey time is 12 hours and is usually overnight. The ship leaves Pireaus in the evening and arrives in Mytilini early the next morning. In high summer there are a few "fast ferries" to Mytilini, the journey time of these ferries is between 6,5 and 8,5 hours.

You can also travel to the smaller port of Sigri (Western coast of Lesvos) from Lavrio. Lavrio (South of Athens) is only 15 km's from the new Athens International airport and is only an 8.5 hour journey to Sigri.

Lesvos is also connected by ferry to Thessaloniki (Northern Greece) and Ayvalik (Turkey) as well as to other Greek island such as Chios and Limnos.

Taxi Transfers on Lesvos Island

Stratos and Nikos in a rare moment of not driving! Our office will be able to assist you with your transfers on the island. We can pre-book your taxi, which means that one of our taxi drivers will wait for you at the airport/harbour in Mytilini and he will hold a sign with your name on it. He will then safely bring you to your destination on the island.

We can advice you to pre-book your taxi transfers for a few reasons.

1) When you pre-book and pay for your transfers in advance it means that you know that there are no hidden costs or other suprises upon arrival at your accommodation. Depending on your generousity you could give a small tip to the driver when you have arrived safely.

2) When you pre-book with us we ask you for your flight details such as flight number and arrival/departure times. We do this to keep an eye out for delays in your flights. In such event we always instruct our drivers to wait for you, or to return at the time your flight is expected to arrive.

3) When you pre-book you know that your taxi driver is instructed to pick you up and to bring you to your destination. They know where you need to go and how to get there, which saves you the stress of having to explain this.

4) When you pre-book your taxi you can let us know about any extra wishes you may have, such as the need for roof-rack, baby seat or booster seat. Our office can make these arrangements for you in advance, at only a small extra charge.
